Ceará has one state holiday, 25 March, the state day marking the abolition of slavery in Ceará in 1884, four years before the national Golden Law. In Fortaleza, Saint Joseph and the patron saint are holidays too. 2027: 11 national and state holidays, 8 on weekdays, and 253 working days. The state day is in article 18, sole paragraph, of the Ceará Constitution, added by Amendment 73 of 2011. The amendment does not say "holiday"; what makes a state day a civil holiday is federal Law 9,093/1995. 19 March, Saint Joseph, patron saint of Ceará, is an optional day off in the state but a holiday in Fortaleza under municipal Law 8,796/2003, which also includes Our Lady of the Assumption on 15 August, Good Friday and Corpus Christi.
