Bahia has one state holiday, Dois de Julho, celebrating Bahia's Independence in 1823, when Portuguese troops left Salvador. It is written into the state constitution itself. 2027: 11 national and state holidays, 8 on weekdays, and 253 working days. Article 6, paragraph 3, of the 1989 Bahia Constitution sets 2 July as the state day; it had already been a holiday under a 1936 state law. Two dates often found on lists do not count: Carnival Friday, which comes from a 1981 decree rather than a law, and Public Servants' Day, 28 October, which applies to civil servants only. In Salvador, Carnival and other dates are set by city hall decree each year; since we could not read the municipal law, the capital's holidays are not on the site.
